What You Will Experience When Getting Laser Vein Removal at The Vein and Vascular Institute of Spring Hill
Vein disease treatment in Spring Hill FL using laser technology (EVLT – Endovenous Laser Ablation Treatment) is performed by top-rated, Board-Certified Vascular Surgeons.
Venous Insufficiency Diagnosis
After your vein consultation with our Spring Hill vascular surgeons, you were diagnosed with venous insufficiency based on your physical exam and history.
To confirm your diagnosis, our vascular surgeons recommended that you have a vascular ultrasound to identify the malfunctioning veins in your legs that need to be treated using EVLT, Endovenous Laser Ablation Treatment.
After getting your vascular ultrasound results, and after discussing the venous insufficiency diagnosis with your vascular surgeon, you decided to get the EVLT procedure performed at The Vein and Vascular Institute of Spring Hill.
Venous Insufficiency Treatment
After your vascular surgeon discussed all other vein removal treatment options with you, and all the risks and benefits of the laser vein removal (EVLT), you acknowledged and agreed to move forward with the EVLT procedure. Then, you contacted your surgical coordinator to schedule the day of your EVLT vein treatment at our Spring Hill vein clinic.
EVLT Pre-Op Instructions
Once you have the day of your EVLT treatment scheduled, you will need to watch the EVLT Pre-Op Video in order to be prepared for your laser vein removal treatment and to see what you will experience from the moment you walk into our Spring Hill vein clinic until the treatment is complete and you are ready to be taken home.
To be ready for your EVLT procedure, please follow the following instructions:
- Please arrange to have someone drive you to and from our vascular clinic on the day of your laser vein removal procedure.
- Since your entire leg will be ace-wrapped immediately after your procedure, we request that you wear loose, comfortable clothing. A dress or a skirt is recommended for women, and loose shorts or sweat pants are recommended for men.
- You can continue to take whatever regular medication you are currently taking.
- Following your EVLT treatment you will have to wear surgical compression hose for ten to fourteen days. If you do not already have your own surgical compression hose, you may buy them at our office.
- No lotions or oils should be applied to your legs on your procedure day.
Arrival To Our Spring Hill Vein Clinic
Please arrive to our vein clinic 30 minutes before your appointment time accompanied by a family member or a friend.
You must sign in at the front desk where you can present your insurance card and pay any patient responsibility.
Once you’ve checked in, our surgical technician will come to greet you, then escort you to the pre-op room.
EVLT Treatment Pre-Op Room
Once you are sitting comfortably in the pre-op room, our surgical technician will give you the consent forms that you need to read and sign before treatment.
Then, your vascular surgeon will come to the pre-op room to greet you and answer any questions you have before going to the laser vein treatment room.
EVLT Treatment Room
After seeing the vascular surgeon in the pre-op room, you will be transferred to the EVLT treatment room where your leg will be sterilized and prepared for the treatment.
Once you are ready for the procedure the vascular surgeon will start the procedure by numbing the area where the laser will be inserted.
You can expect to feel a few small pinches where the surgeon is applying the anesthesia. Once the area is numb, the laser will be inserted and turned on, generating the heat that will close your diseased vein.
If you are also having varicose veins removed, after the EVLT is complete the vascular surgeon will perform a microphlebectomy to physically remove your varicose veins through a small incision.
Immediately following treatment, your leg will be ace-wrapped to compress the treated veins and promote quick and safe recovery. You will then be transferred to the recovery room.
EVLT Recovery Room
In the recovery room, you will be sitting with your leg elevated for 20 minutes while the surgical technician goes over the discharge instructions with you. He will also give you a copy of the discharge instructions so you can take them home with you.
Once you are ready to go home, the surgical technician will take you to your car so the person accompanying you can take you home.
